5 Reasons – Know Your Child’s Friends?

The nice people at nannypro.com offered this column from their latest blog.

5 Reasons To Think  Twice About Who Your Child Hangs Around With

The blog intriqued me, because I often mention in my conversations with kids that not only in real life but online, who they hang around with online, will also color how people view them. In our hurry to be “liked”, “followed”, “re-pinned or re-tweeted”, we sometimes accept all “friends”. It is important to remember that all of your friends or followers can see what other people post, write or regurgitate in some manner. And if it appears on our facebook, Instagram, tumblr, Pinterest or whatever social media we prefer, then peole will assume that is our opinion too. We can reach all the way back to Aesop’s Fables to be reminded that “A Man is Known By the Company He Keeps”, or Birds of a Feather Flock Together. Whatever adage you want to adhere to, we are to be reminded that people will judge us by our friends and as parents we would do well to not only remember that for our own lives, but to help our children make wise decisions.

The blog has some great insights on the 5 Reasons we should know who our kids friends are:

  • Bullying Happens Among Friends
  • The Quesion of Influence
  • The Breakup Backlash
  • Parental Supervision
  • Avoiding Unfair Accusations

Read the whole article for some insights and maybe even some conversation starters with your kids.

INOBTR never endorses one product over another – but it is great to know there are companies who are as concerned about your children as you are. Check them out.
